Sequence Stratigraphy

We view the integration of biostratigraphic data with seismic stratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy & sedimentology as fundamentally important. We use quantitative biostratigraphic data to interpret phases of transgression and regression, recognise maximum flooding surfaces to pin-point significant stratigraphic breaks and major sequence boundaries.

We also utilise the technique of graphic correlation using both Stratabugs and Strataplot. Graphic correlation is a simple but powerful tool for analysing any event-based geological information. When applied to biostratigraphic data, the scatter of points on a depth versus age plot is used to determine a best-fit Line Of Correlation (LOC). The LOC takes the form of a series of sloping ramps and flat terraces. Ramps represent intervals of sediment accumulation while terraces locate significant stratigraphic breaks.
